the beginning
Starting college can be a daunting experience, especially when you're not entirely sure what you want to study. For me, I went into UC Santa Barbara as an electrical engineering major because I had always been good at math in school. However, I soon realized that while I enjoyed math, I wasn't particularly interested in engineering as a field.
It wasn't until I took an intro to programming class during my first quarter at UC Santa Barbara that my whole perspective on what I wanted to study changed. I fell in love with programming and the idea of being able to create something with code. I was hooked, and I knew that I wanted to switch my major to computer science.
Making the switch wasn't easy, and I did struggle a bit in my first programming class. But I was determined to succeed, so I made sure to go to office hours regularly and ask for help when I needed it. And even though the class was challenging, doing the programming homework never felt like work to me. That's when I knew that computer science was the right path for me.
It's important to remember that it's okay to change your mind and explore different fields in college. And if you find yourself struggling, don't be afraid to reach out for help. It can be scary to make a big change like switching majors, but it's important to follow your passion and do what makes you happy.
In conclusion, I'm glad that I took the chance and switched to computer science. It was the best decision I ever made and I'm excited to see where this path will take me.
